China In Buying

Another forwarded email... enjoy

Buying In China

A man went on business to China and wanted to buy some gifts for his kids. He went to a shop and found a nice looking CD player. Wary of buying inferior goods, he asked the shopkeeper, 'What would happen if this does not work?'

The shopkeeper quietly points to the only sign in English that reads, 'GUARANTEE NO SPOILT'.

Feeling assured, he paid for the CD player and returns to his hotel. He tried to use the CD player after returning to the hotel but it would not even switch on.

He quickly return to the shop and asked for a refund or an exchange for another unit. When the shopkeeper refuse to give either, the man points to the sign assuring him of a guarantee.

The shopkeeper then said, 'Brother, you are in China . We read from the right to the left.'

Penang Roadsigns In Multi Language

BN has nothing better to argue about?

The roadsigns are still in Bahasa Malaysia, it is just that there are additional sighs in other languages, which will help foreign tourist and visitors alike. Come on man, not every foreigner knows how to read in Bahasa Malaysia.

Won't this help tourism in Penang, like the giving Datukship to Shahrukh Khan that is supposedly to help tourism in Melaka.

Backbenchers rap Penang's multi-lingual road signs
http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/92062
Barisan Nasional backbenchers today urged the federal government to take action against the DAP-led Penang government for using multi-lingual road signs.

Mohamad Aziz (BN-Sri Gading) said the Penang government's decision to implement the multi-language road signs instead of road signs in the national language was disrespectful to the nation's social contract.

"I want the Ministry of Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage, with courage, with honesty, to explicitly tell the House what kind of action will it take against the insolence displayed by the Penang government to use road signs with three languages which is disrespectful to the federal constitution," he said.

He then argued that the constitution stated that Bahasa Malaysia was the primary language of the nation and must be used as the main language for public road signs.

Deputy Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Teng Boon Soon however responded by saying that the matter fell within the jurisdiction of the state government and not the ministry.

Teng, who is MCA MP for Tebrau, also said that the constitution emphasised on respect for other languages.

Out With The Eurocopter Defence Deal

Is it due to the economy or is the government trying to hide something.

Malaysia ditches Eurocopters on gloomy economic outlook
http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/index.php/malaysia/11197-malaysia-ditches-eurocopters-on-gloomy-economic-outlook

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 - Malaysia will ditch the RM2.3 billion Eurocopter defence deal as it battens down to face the global economic storm, sources said today.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak decided to cut out the EC725 military helicopter contract over the weekend when the government reviewed its expenses in light of falling revenues from crude oil and palm oil and slowing economic growth for the next few years.

"The Eurocopter deal is off due to the bleak economic times ahead," a source told The Malaysian Insider. Opposition leaders and critics had savaged the purchase of the dozen EC725 helicopters, saying its RM193 million price tag per aircraft was more than double of Brazil's contract for 50 EC725 helicopters, which came to RM84 million per aircraft. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said it will investigate the deal.

Friday 24th Oct 2008. Our cell group went up to Look Out Point Western Food Restaurant for dinner.

Look Out Point Western Food Restaurant is as it says, a western restaurant, with a wonderful view of Kuala Lumpur. The night view is just super-splendorous. :-P

Who came... the Ngs, the Chongs and the Seahs, including my mum.

Andrea slept through out the dinner. She missed the KL night view.

Overall the food was so so, it could have been better. But the company and the view of KL made up for it.
Thank you Philip for the dinner.

Finally if you want to take some video shots or make a movie up there, you first need to get the management's permission.

Cops Sounds The Retreat In Chow Kit

I wonder what contagious diseases the cops are exposed to... sexual transmitted diseases? Unless they get jabbed by a contaminated needle, how else can they be "exposed" to such diseases. Is it air borne diseases than we have a major health issue here.

The presence of criminals also posed a threat to the safety of police officers. Ain't the cops suppose to protect the people and not let the criminals walk all over them? Looks like a win for criminals here.

Uses Of Melamine & Ammonium Bicarbonate

Searched Wikipedia on these two substances... Scary to know its uses and that it found its way into our food system.

Melamine
Uses
Melamine is combined with formaldehyde to produce melamine resin, a very durable thermosetting plastic, and melamine foam, a polymeric cleaning product. The end products include countertops, dry erase boards, fabrics, glues, housewares and flame retardants. Melamine is one of the major components in Pigment Yellow 150, a colorant in inks and plastics.
...

Ammonium bicarbonate
Uses
Ammonium bicarbonate is used in the food industry as a raising agent (e.g., for gingerbread, digestive biscuit or Chinese youtiao) before the introduction of baking soda. Ammonium bicarbonate is still used in many food products, in addition to baking soda.

It is commonly used as an inexpensive nitrogen fertilizer in China, but is now being phased out in favor of urea because of its relatively low quality and instability. This compound is used as a component in the production of fire-extinguishing compounds, pharmaceuticals, dyes, pigments and it is also a basic fertilizer being a source of ammonia. Ammonium bicarbonate is still widely used in the plastic and rubber industry, in the manufacture of ceramics, in chrome leather tanning and for the synthesis of catalysts.[citation needed]

Safety
Ammonium bicarbonate is an irritant to the skin, eyes and respiratory system. Ammonium bicarbonate from China used to make cookies was found to be contaminated with melamine, and imports banned in Malaysia in the 2008 Chinese milk scandal.

Rats @ SS13 Flats

News update on The Star Online on the rat problems at SS13 flats. The problem will never go away until people get rid of their rubbish and waste the proper way.

Has the gotong royong in June, all the time and energy go to waste?

Rat menace at Subang flats
THEY sneak out from their little homes at night, and start scurrying around. Sniffing their way through the discarded food and rubbish, they chomp down in delight the leftovers and make the grass patch, just outside the homes of people, their playground.

This is the scene of rat invasion in an urban township in the Klang Valley. It is a vivid description that dwellers of the low-cost flats in SS13 Subang Jaya (near the 3K complex) give of the rat colony in their residential area that they have put up with for years.
...
Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh said she was aware of the problem which was a long-standing issue for years.

“In fact, I’ve joined in a round of gotong-royong in the area and our volunteers even brought in pest control people to get rid of the rats,” Yeoh said.
