3 Tolls Vs 1 Toll To Sungai Long
LLM taken to task over misleading signboard
Thursday August 27, 2009
THE Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) has come under fire from Kajang Municipal councillors for refusing to remove a signboard leading roadusers on a longer route to Sungai Long via the Silk Highway and for forcing them to stop at three toll booths.
Longer route: The sign to Sungai Long on the Silk Highway en route to Kajang from Seremban, Putrajaya and KLIA leads motorists to three toll booths while the signboard to the same destination at Exit 1807 is partially hidden
Picture from The Star
“LLM can instruct the Silk Highway concessionaire to remove the signboard to Sungai Long en route to Kajang from Seremban, Putrajaya and the KL International Airport (KLIA) because motorists will have to travel 16.6km and pay RM3 in toll.
“The turning to Kajang at Exit 1807 also leads to Sungai Long but the sign is not prominently displayed. Why is this so when the route is only 8.8km and there is only one toll charging RM1?” asked Tan.

Killer Tobacco
Tobacco seen killing 6 million people next year
Tue Aug 25, 2009
Tobacco use will kill 6 million people next year from cancer, heart disease, emphysema and a range of other ills, global cancer experts said in a report issued on Tuesday.
...
Some other findings from the report, available at www.tobaccoatlas.org
* 1 billion men smoke -- 35 percent of men in rich countries and 50 percent of men in developing countries.
* About 250 million women smoke daily -- 22 percent of women in developed countries and 9 percent of women in developing countries.
* Smoking rates among women are either stable or increasing in several southern, central and eastern European countries.
* The risk of dying from lung cancer is more than 23 times higher for men who smoke than for nonsmokers and 13 times higher for women smokers.
* Tobacco kills one-third to one-half of those who smoke. Smokers die an average of 15 years earlier than nonsmokers.
* Nearly 60 percent of Chinese men smoke and China consumes more than 37 percent of the world's cigarettes.
* 50 million Chinese children, mostly boys, will die prematurely from tobacco-related diseases.
* Tobacco use will eventually kill 250 million of today's teenagers and children.
* Nearly one-quarter of young people who smoke tried their first cigarette before the age of 10.
* Occupational exposure to secondhand smoke kills 200,000 workers every year.
"One hundred million people were killed by tobacco in the 20th century. Unless effective measures are implemented to prevent young people from smoking and to help current smokers quit, tobacco will kill 1 billion people in the 21st century," the report predicts.
China by far leads the world in cigarette production followed by the United States, Russia and Japan.

Half Day Leave.... Yesterday
I took 1/2 day leave yesterday and brought my family to the Mines Shopping Fair for some window shopping.
I was looking for a pair of white long pants for this coming Sunday, but to no avail.
Also took the opportunity to browse for a laptop, yes I am planning to get a new personal laptop, not only for my use, but also for Marilyn who can use it for Children Ministry classes. Still looking.
I have not been to the Mines for quite sometime. It is now brighter (except for Giant, which is still dimly lit) and seems more organized with new shops. The parking system is more convenient, with red and green lights above the parking lot to signify if the lot is available or not.
