Strictly No Contract IT Consultants

We contract IT consultants in our workplace, and we sometimes call them "contractors".

In my office block, there is this notice outside the lifts. "STRICTLY NO CONTRACTORS... ALLOW INTO THIS LIFT", other than the bad grammar, our contract IT consultants are not allowed to use the lift.

Please use the stairs ^__^

Birth Day: From Conception to Birth

Received this from a friend, enjoy reading....

The 'Middle Wife' by an Anonymous 2nd grade teacher

I've been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two kids myself, but the best birth story I know is the one I saw in my own second grade classroom a few years back.

When I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell. So I always have a few sessions with my students. It helps them get over shyness and usually, show-and-tell is pretty tame.. Kids bring in pet turtles, model airplanes, pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school and talk about it, they're welcome.

Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very outgoing kid, takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class with a pillow stuffed under her sweater.

She holds up a snapshot of an infant. 'This is Luke, my baby brother, and I'm going to tell you about his birthday.'

'First, Mom and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and then Dad put a seed in my Mom's stomach, and Luke grew in there. He ate for nine months through an umbrella cord.'

She's standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I'm trying not to laugh and wishing I had my camcorder with me. The kids are watching her in amazement.

'Then, about two Saturdays ago, my Mom starts saying and going, 'Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh!' Erica puts a hand behind her back and groans. 'She walked around the house for, like an hour, 'Oh, oh, oh!' (Now this kid is doing a hysterical duck walk and groaning.)

'My Dad called the middle wife. She delivers babies, but she doesn't have a sign on the car like the Domino's man. They got my Mom to lie down in bed like this.' (Then Erica lies down with her back against the wall.)

'And then, pop! My Mom had this bag of water she kept in there in case he got thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled all over the bed, like psshhheew!' (This kid has her legs spread with her little hands miming water flowing away. It was too much!)

'Then the middle wife starts saying 'push, push,' and 'breathe, breathe. They started counting, but never even got past ten. Then, all of a sudden, out comes my brother. He was covered in yucky stuff that they all said it was from Mom's play-center, (placenta) so there must be a lot of toys inside there. When he got out, the middle wife spanked him for crawling up in there.'

Then Erica stood up, took a big theatrical bow and returned to her seat. I'm sure I applauded the loudest. Ever since then, when it's show-and-tell day, I bring my camcorder, just in case another 'Middle Wife' comes along.

China In Buying

Another forwarded email... enjoy

Buying In China

A man went on business to China and wanted to buy some gifts for his kids. He went to a shop and found a nice looking CD player. Wary of buying inferior goods, he asked the shopkeeper, 'What would happen if this does not work?'

The shopkeeper quietly points to the only sign in English that reads, 'GUARANTEE NO SPOILT'.

Feeling assured, he paid for the CD player and returns to his hotel. He tried to use the CD player after returning to the hotel but it would not even switch on.

He quickly return to the shop and asked for a refund or an exchange for another unit. When the shopkeeper refuse to give either, the man points to the sign assuring him of a guarantee.

The shopkeeper then said, 'Brother, you are in China . We read from the right to the left.'

CelebL - Celebration Leave. Contiuation after Public Holiday or need leave to celebrate an occasion like hungry ghost festival, mass circumcission or paying penance to a vow etc.

OL - Overslept Leave. Either working late/overtime night before or heavy partying that one couldn't wake up on time to go to work.

POL - Pissed Off Leave. When you're super annoyed with something or someone at work, and refuse to go in the next day. Maybe in the form of MC or EL. Usually based on some trivial reason like 'stomachache' or 'cat died'.

CL - Compassionate Leave. Usually given when a member of immediate family is sick or has passed on. Subject to rampant abuse by unscrupulous employees who say they 'have very big but close family'.

FL - Football Leave. Applied on the day your team loses the Champion's League final at 3.00am in the morning.

SL - Singles Leave. For unmarried people who are ineligible for Mat. L and Pat. L, (to be fair to all) so they are given a few days off every year to actually go and socialise and find a spouse. Number of days you are entitled to increases with your age. To increase your chances lah...

FDSL - First Day of School Leave. Parents need to accompany their kids to the first day of school / kindergarten / nursery / pre-nursery / swimming class / music appreciation class...

And since of Feb 14 is fast approaching, here goes... [next year]

This one, my own leave...
BL - Birthday Leave. I don't work on my birthday leave.

Types of egg

From my fren's Yahoo messenger status, she is in the US now...

Why the different colour? According to Wikipedia...

Egg shell color is caused by pigment deposition during egg formation in the oviduct and can vary according to species and breed, from the more common white or brown to pink or speckled blue-green.

In general, chicken breeds with white ear lobes lay white eggs, whereas chickens with red ear lobes lay brown eggs.

Although there is no significant link between shell color and nutritional value, there is often a cultural preference for one color over another.

For example, in most regions of the United States, chicken eggs are generally white; while in the northeast of that country and in the United Kingdom, they are generally light-brown. In Brazil and Poland, white chicken eggs are generally regarded as industrial, and brown or reddish ones are preferred.
