Jalan University Storm On Fri 18th Feb 2011

Last Friday on 18th February 2011, I was in my car on the way back home when I was caught in the storm which hit Jalan University just outside University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC).

It was around 6:15pm when I turned into Jalan University towards the Federal Highway when the heavy rain started. There was a jam in front of UMMC cause by heavy traffic and the traffic lights was red. Just before the traffic light opposite the Samsonite outlet, the heavy rain turned into a violent storm which lasted a few seconds, seems like eternity to me.

Due to the strong violent wind, you could not see through the windscreen even with the wipers on. I shudder the though of being outside the car, I might have been blown away by the wind.

A broken tree branch from a nearby tree was blown past my car. I could pray that the branch not hit my car nor any other motorist. A few seconds later another tree branch rolled at the side of my car, I prayed "don't hit my car, don't hit my car...". It landed at the side of my rear left tyre, phew...

I looked at the big tree right after the traffic lights and prayed that the tree nor it branches not to fall onto the road and cars beneath it.

When the traffic lights turn green, I pressed the accelerator but the car could not move. I checked my handbrakes and gear and tried again, still the car could not move.

"The tree branch" I thought. I switched on the hazard lights, gear at park and handbrake on. Got my umbrella, exited the car via the left passenger door. The tree branch was lodged under the left rear tyre. After a few tries, I successfully unlodged the branch and moved it to the side walk. I was soaked to the bones. The umbrella was of no help from the strong wind. Got back into the car and continued on my way.

At the next traffic lights, the left side of the road was flooded and a billboard was damaged and parts of the billboard was strewed on the road, this caused only one lane to be assessable.

Made my way home, safe and sound. Praise God.

CDM Swallowed My ATM Card

This morning as I was going about depositing cash into the Cash Deposit Machine (CDM) at Maybank, SeaPark, the machine showed a Windows error message than it went Out of Service, with my ATM card still inside its belly.

I called the Customer Service and was told that I could collect the card after 8:45AM when the branch is opened for business. Requested them to deactivate my card.

Went to the bank during lunch and was told the CDM machine has not yet been opened for the day. Was told to go for lunch and they will call me once the card has been retrieved.

Right after lunch, I received a call to collect my card. All this within 1 hour. I also had to fill up a form to re-activate my card.

My thanks to the bank officer who helped me.

Woke Up Late, Still Early To Office

I woke up late today, just before 7am, my body must be telling me "Hey! Its New Years Eve, take another few minutes of slumber". Few minutes became 1 hour. My usual wake up time is 5:30am or 6:00am during the school holidays. Reason being, to beat the morning rush hour.

Still made it to the office before 8:00am, as traffic was not that heavy this morning. Phew!

Post 3 Dec 2008

Yawning the whole day today. Why? Someone asked me to blog about it.

Reason reached home late and slept late last night. Another late night today. Drank Nescafe coffee just now, and it is of no help.

My day On 3rd December 2008

3 Dec 2008. What did I do on this day...

I took half day leave, in the afternoon to go to Amcorp mall to check out the price of a DSLR camera, Nikon D90 and Canon 450D.

In the afternoon, I fetched 'boss' Rach to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur to oversee the setup for the nights Charity Fashion Show at Tangs (Mezze), by Eric Leong and organized by OfficialXS. This charity fashion show is for the Nanyang Foundation.

Latter Rain Mediaworks was there to do the video shot, sound and lighting.

After the setup and before the fashion show began, boss and I made our way back to VVC for music rehearsal.

Thanks to 'boss' for the McD Fillet birthday dinner :-P

Thats my day. Cheers!

My Toe Update

This week I started wearing shoes to work. Only slight discomfort wearing the shoes, as my toe felt claustrophobic :-P

I would remove my shoes while driving and while I am seated in the office.

I walked to Perodua service centre near my office on Thurday, and had lunch with brother Jo on Friday at the hawker centre on the roadside of Jalan 19/1.

To my toe "So far so good".

My Toe Update

I am wearing shoes for the first time since my toe operation last month on September 12th.

It hurts when I walk in it, so I will remove my shoes when I drive and when I am in the office.

Handy Daddy

I painted our holiday home's front grill when we were there.

Have not done this since I was in secondary school when I was staying in Taman Bukit Anggerik, Cheras.

Took around 4 hours to complete. Where is handy Manny and his tools when you need them.

My Toe After Changing New Bandage

My bandage was suppose to last till this Friday, but last Friday my toe bled much more than anticipated until it looked looked like this, dried up blood.

I was afraid it would get infected if I did not change the bandage, worst still lose my toe.

My toe still hurts when I walk, and eventhought I can drive, after a while of driving my toe will signal to me... time to rest, get your foot off the pedal.

I went to see the doctor at Pantai Cheras Hospital to change the bandage. It was a painful experience when Dr Ong took out the old bandage and hurts even more when he applied antiseptic... arrrrrrrrggh.

This is how my toe looks like with the new bandage.....

A Day In Hospital Pantai Cheras (Updated)

I was admitted to Pantai Hospital, Cheras this morning (Sept 12th) to remove a growth from my 2nd toe, right feet.

Chronology of events:
9:00am
Marilyn and I arrived at the hospital slightly before 9am for my appointment with Dr Ong (not related to brother Jo Ong) :-P.

10:00am
I was admitted into a double room around 10 am. Mmmm, why am I being admitted into a room, just for a minor operation? according to the nurse, it is the hospital's standard operating procedure.

12:00pm
Had lunch in the room, sweet sour fish.... no comment on the hospital food.

1:00pm
I accompanied Marilyn to the canteen for her lunch. She had noodle soup. At RM3:80 it was worth if, lots of fishballs and veg.

Marilyn just finished her lunch and we were on the way up to the room when the nurse called me around 1:20pm, asking where was I, as I was need to be prepared for surgery.

Yes I had to stripped out of everything and
wear the hospital gown, opening at the back. Quite sexy I think. No specs, no handphone (son can't take photos of the operation)...

1:35pm
Wheeled into the operating ward around 1:35pm. I joked with Marilyn, "I will be out in 5 minutes".

Dr Ong asked me if I wanted to sleep through the operation, I said no.... did I regret it.

The actual operation in the operating theater (OT) took around 5-10 minutes.

The most painful part was the injection to 'numb' my toe while the doctor cut of the growth. Second most painful, was like someone squeezing you toes very hard, that part was when the doctor stitched my toe.

Wheeled out of the OT, and put on observation for around 20-30 minutes.

2:15pm
Wheeled out of the operating ward at 2:15pm. Thats what I heard the nurse mentioned when she wrote in her report.

I was handed over from the operating ward nurses to the room ward nurses. I felt like 'goods' being transported from one place to another.

5:00pm
Discharged from the hospital slightly after 5pm. Overall, around 8 hours in the hospital, just to remove a growth from my toe.

The doctor will send the "cut-off" growth to the lab for analysis. will know the result this coming Friday,

The "agonizing" hours in the hospital was mainly waiting for the doctor and also to process the insurance for payment.

The operation is covered by my company insurance (ING), praise God. :-D

5:15pm
Left for home to celebrate Andrea's 4th birthday and the moon cake festival.

Sad News

This morning an ex-colleague of mine, Hizam (ex DKSH) YMed me to inform me that, my other ex-colleague and friend (Ex DKSH), Viki's husband just passed away yesterday.

I was shock to hear the news. I just talked to him last week on the phone, and he invited me to his house during the weekend, but I had to go outstation during the Merdeka weekend. He called me when I was attending ITIL training last week.

How do I know him? His name is Andrew, husband to Viki and they have 2 daughters. Andrew is my mutual fund agent.

My condolences to Viki and children and family members.

I am taking half day today to go to St Francis Xavier's church in PJ to attend the funeral.

Medical Leave On 20.08.2008

Some questions my friends asked me yesterday...
"Why was my blog not updated yesterday?"
"Why was I not online on Yahoo messenger?"

That shows that something was not right yesterday... well I was on medical leave, had problems with my stomach. Not co-operating to digest the food that I ate.

The Little Drummer Boy's Drumming Experience

I played the drums yesterday during worship service, as Alex our regular drummer had to travel outstation.

During practice on Wednesday, I was so unsure of the drum beats, since I am not a drummer. I usually play the bass and my favourite is playing the guitar.

From Thursday to Saturday I listened to some of the songs in MP3, just to familiarize myself with the beats of the songs. But while listening to the songs, I got distracted by the sounds of the guitar. :-P

It is just not the same as practicing the songs regularly, i.e. it is just 'theory'.

What was my thoughts on Sunday? I felt slightly anxious.
I was 'called' to fill in the 'gap' and that is what I did.

During the worship
sorry to say this, but I felt it was like an exam for me. Not being a practicing drummer, I just wanted to keep the beat and timing as far as possible and this resulted in me not able to worship like I wanted to.

I know I shouldn't think of it like this, but I did.
Sorry Lord.

I praise God all went well (I think so...), with minimal (or is it more than minimal...) mistakes... yes I did make mistakes.

Sorry to the team if I was not myself on Wednesday and Sunday.

'Smart' User Using The SmartTag Lane'

Last night at around 10:35 pm, as I was going through the 50 cents toll (SmartTag lane) on the East-West link (of Connaught highway), there was a dark coloured Kenari in front of me.

At first the driver was unsure if he/she wanted to use the SmartTag or the cash lane. Finally the car turn into the SmartTag lane.

Guess what the car stopped and out popped the hand of the Smart' driver who tried to use the Touch & Go (T&G) card. It did not work. The driver tried to contact the operator via the intercomm. It was like a full minute, waiting but no one came.

So the driver started reversing. Of course I can't reverse, as there were a few cars behind me. Finally when I manage to reverse by a meter, my SmartTag went 'peeeep' and the barrier opened, and the car in front of me went through without paying.

As I drove through my Tag went 'peeep' again. Twice :-(
