Please Make Sure All Rear Seat Passenger Wear Their Safety Belfts

Tomorrow onwards 1st January 2009, all rear seat passengers must wear their safety belts.

Will this be another rule where people will eventually not follow because of the lack of enforcement?

Look at the tinting issue, 3rd brake lights, motocyclist not wearing helmets, more than 2 persons on a motobike meant for 2, motobikes without lights (front and brake lights), speeding, beating red lights and the list goes on and on and on....

Rear seat belt offenders face harsher penalty from July
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/12/28/nation/2903550&sec=nation
...Road Transport Department (JPJ) and police will start issuing summonses from Jan 1 to all passengers for not wearing their rear seat belts.

... a six-month grace period during which they would only be issued a compound of RM300 for not wearing their rear seat belts.

From July 1, drivers and passengers caught not using their seat belts would have to pay a fine of up to RM2,000, serve up to one year’s jail or both under the Road Transport Act...

Lunch @ 3 Two Square Restoran Kadir Maju

Had lunch at a new restaurant in 3 Two Square, Restoran Kadir Maju, a 24 hours restaurant. It took over the former restaurant Embun's Cafe which is located just opposite 7-11.

Last week before Christmas I saw that Embun's Cafe was still operating and this week it changed to Kadir Maju.

They don't serve roti during lunch, just mixed rice, fried noodle and fried rice. I had the mixed rice with rendang kambing. Nice and tender. Cheaper too compare to the nearby competition, their rendang mixed rice would cost RM5.50 while at Kadir's it cost RM4.00.

The restaurant is airy and is quite cooling.

So thumbs up, for my first visit here at Restoran Kadir Maju.

Was The Government Working During The Recent Long Holidays

Former Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's comment on the recent "long" holiday in Malaysia, from Christmas to Awal Muharam, with everybody taking leave after Christmas and only came back to work on Tuesday after Awal Muharam.

... It shows that we really don't need a Government. It will just coast along even if no one is steering it. That is how good we have become at governing.

Woke Up Late, Still Early To Office

I woke up late today, just before 7am, my body must be telling me "Hey! Its New Years Eve, take another few minutes of slumber". Few minutes became 1 hour. My usual wake up time is 5:30am or 6:00am during the school holidays. Reason being, to beat the morning rush hour.

Still made it to the office before 8:00am, as traffic was not that heavy this morning. Phew!

Lunch @ Satay Kajang Haji SAmuri

Yesterday after some shopping at Alamanda, Putrajaya with my family and Cheryl from Melaka, we stopped by in Kajang for satay.

We had satay at Satay Kajang Haji Samuri, located at the satay centre next to the Kajang Stadium.

We usually eat satay at Restaurant Satay Malaysia, located in Kajang town, but yesterday we decided to try the one at the stadium.

Due to the lunch crowd, the service was slow. After ordering the satay, the waiters served us the kuah satay (peanut sauce), cucumber and ketupat. Waited quite long for the satay to arrive. Good too, as we were waiting for Silas and Rachel to arrive.

When the satay arrived it was not hot. Could be due to the "mass cooking" and "mass serving" of the satays to customers.

The chicken satay had chicken skin in between the skewed meat. Well I like my satay to be lean and mean, and not too chewy like the lembu and kambing satay we had yesterday.

Overall, I am disappointed with the satay served here, and the drink too were not that good.

So no, pictures from this satay outlet, as I felt it was not necesary.

More Agree That Climbing Mount Kinabalu Is Expensive

Mount Kinabalu is not a private mountain and it should be made affordable for everyone and not just the rich to visit and climb this wonderful nature of God.

If I can, I would want to climb it again. My one and only climb up Mount Kinabalu was in August 2006 and it was affordable than.

Getting more costly to climb up Mount Kinabalu
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/12/30/focus/2908747&sec=focus

I FULLY agree with “Expensive to climb Mount Kinabalu now” (The Star, Dec 20) and “Uphill task to climb Mount Kinabalu now” (The Star, Dec 23).

I have climbed Mount Kinabalu four times, the first in 1985 (when Laban Rata was being built) and the last time in June 2008.

Ever since Sabah Parks privatised the accommodation at Mount Kinabalu to Sutera Sanctuary Lodges, costs have gone up drastically.

Now, every individual climber is forced to pay package prices which include a few basic meals, when before part of the thrill was cooking our own food (Gunting Lagadan) or ordering reasonably-priced food at the canteen (Laban Rata).

In addition to this, it would seem that Sutera Sanctuary Lodges’ guests are given the privilege to climb up the mountain over non-hotel guests because the guests are offered packages which include a climb up Mount Kinabalu.

Budget, but avid, climbers like me have to book six months in advance, and even then bookings are taken up within one hour as only a few seats are allocated for non-hotel climbers.

Preference is given to guests who can afford the pricey Sutera Sanctuary Lodges’ packages which compel one to stay a night at either Kinabalu Park or Mesilau Resort.

I have travelled widely and seen many well-managed sites, yet Mount Kinabalu is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Unfortunately it is getting expensive.

If Sabah Parks is aiming for conservation by limiting the number of people, then they should do just that, but not by allowing a monopoly to increase the lodging rates in the name of conservation. The mountains are for all, not just the paying few.

I do hope that the Tourism Ministry and Sabah Parks will look into this problem.

Tampin.

Christmas Day Family Lunch @ Subarashi Japanese Restaurant

How did I spend my Christmas day this year? Other than our yearly Christmas family lunch, I spend most of the day sleeping. Was not feeling well since Christmas eve evening. Felt the chills and had body aches.

Well I did wake up to bring the family for lunch :-P

Our yearly Christmas day family lunch this year... in previous years we would go to
Eastin Hotel for buffet lunch, then more recently we switched to Chili's at Bangsar Shopping Centre. This year we decided to try Japanese.

We went to Subarashi Japanese Restaurant. located in Oriental Crystal Hotel in Kajang.

The family...

The food... this round there was no buffet. Buffet is usually on Fridays and Saturdays. We had the Bento set.

In Rome Cross The Street In A Group Or WIth A Nun

I was browsing the web regarding Rome and came across this...

Health & safety: Dangers & annoyances
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/italy/rome/practical-information/health
Rome is not a dangerous city but petty crime is rife.

Road safety is also an issue. The highway code is obeyed with discretion so don’t take it for granted that cars and scooters will stop at pedestrian crossings, or even at red lights. The only way to cross the road is to step confidently into the traffic and walk across, ideally in a group, best of all with a nun.

If I am in Rome with my wife I will get her to a nuns habit, so that we can confidently cross Rome's streets.

Merry Christmas Everyone

Wishing all my family, friends, bloggers, blog readers in Malaysia and around the world, a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

OUCH!!!!!

Someone Agrees With What David Said

Follow up letter from another The Star reader on David's letter to The Star regarding the cost of climbing Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia.

Uphill task to climb Mt Kinabalu now
Tuesday December 23, 2008
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/12/23/focus/2868737&sec=focus

I AGREE fully with “Expensive to climb Mount Kinabalu now” (The Star, Dec 20). I am a student of Universiti Malaysia Sabah, and I climbed Mount Kinabalu in February.

The total cost only came to RM150 for accommodation in Laban Rata for one night and Sabah Park fees. Since then, I’ve encouraged my friends to climb the mountain because it is one of the most beautiful places in the country.

My friends from Kuala Lumpur planned to climb the mountain in August next year.

Unfortunately, the cost of accommodation there has increased by almost 300%. Starting next year, accommodation in Laban Rata will cost about RM450 for two nights. This is not including the RM100 Sabah Park fees.

Now, my friends are not sure if they want to climb Mount Kinabalu because the total cost including flight tickets and accommodation in Kota Kinabalu will be almost RM1,000. This is too much for students to bear.

I hope the Tourism Ministry will look into the matter.

Kuala Lumpur.

DUMC Children's Church Musical

21 Dec 2008. Sunday after church, I brought my family to DUMC Dream Centre at Section 13 for their Children's Church Christmas musical "A King Is Coming To Town". Thanks to Marilyn's tai cherr for the invitation.

Pictures taken with my handphone camera K800i, without flash and without zoom.

Pictures: Top-left to right. Children's Church leading worship with the children's band, funny acts by the clowns, and DUMC TV journalist in the musical play.
Bottom-left to right. Musical play featuring the king of rock and roll.. Elvis, king of the jungle and king (Queen) Yuu Chien speaking in her best Singlish.

DUMC was a good host, with light food before the musical. There was even a party pack for the kids after the show.

We met Pastor Joy and Abraham and their children there.

At the end there was an alter call for children and parents who want to accept Jesus into their hearts. What surprised me was that Ashley put up her hand as well, and she went out with her mei mei to be prayed for.

David Says: Expensive to climb Mount Kinabalu now

Our very own David Tan, a man who is much traveled, especially when "Everyone Can Fly" airlines AirAsia made it possible for nearly everyone to fly, writing in to The Star to give his "piece of mind"... I mean opinion on the increasing cost to climb Mount Kinabalu, Sabah.

Expensive to climb Mount Kinabalu now
Saturday December 20, 2008
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/12/20/focus/2856996&sec=focus

I HAVE climbed Mt Kinabalu four times. It is a World Heritage Site and a beautiful place to visit.

In the past, I used to pay only RM40 per night for a bed in a heated dormitory at the Laban Rata resthouse.

AirAsia makes it affordable to fly to Kota Kinabalu. Sometimes it cost RM250 for a 3D/2N trip which includes expenses on return air tickets, taxi, climb fees, guide, certificate, insurance, etc.

Now it is a different story. If we want to climb the mountain, it will cost us RM208 for a one-night stay at Laban Rata resthouse with meals provided.

Next year, a one-night stay at Laban Rata resthouse will cost RM330 per person.

Air travel is cheap now and if you get a good offer, it costs only about RM60 return on AirAsia. But the cost of climbing Mt Kinabalu has risen too much that it makes sense to travel to other countries for a holiday.

I hope Tourism Malaysia and Sabah can look into this matter.

DAVID TAN,
Puchong.
