KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Ong Tee Keat is the new MCA president. The Transport Minister defeated former vice-president Datuk Chua Jui Meng in the MCA elections at Wisma San Choon here on Saturday.

The four new MCA four vice-presidents are Perak’s Datuk Kong Cho Ha, former MCA Youth chief Datuk Liow Tiong Lai, Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen and Johor deputy MCA chief Tan Kok Hong.

The others in the fray for the four vice-presidents’ posts were Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn, Kedah’s Datuk Chor Chee Heung, former Serdang MP Datuk Yap Pian Hon and Kuala Langat division vice-chairman Lim Teck Chong.

In the race for the deputy president’s post Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek emerged victorious. The others vying for the deputy presidency were Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan, Datuk Donald Lim and Tanjung MCA deputy chairman Lee Hack Teik

Tee Keat is new MCA No 1, Soi Lek No 2
9.45pm The official announcement confirms the new president as Ong Tee Keat (1,429 votes), defeating Chua Jui Meng (917 votes).

The new deputy president is Dr Chua Soi Lek (1,115 votes), defeating Ong Ka Chuan (1,000 votes).

The four new vice-presidents are Kong Cho Ha (1,798 votes), Liow Tiong Lai (1,725 votes), Dr Ng Yen Yen (1,659 votes) and Tan Kok Hong (1,320 votes).

Unofficial: Tee Keat is new MCA No 1
9.30pm The vote-count for the party president is closed. Unofficial results show Tee Keat has won the party president's post after defeating Jui Meng.

9.05pm As vote-counting for party president is mid-way, Jui Meng is trailing closely behind Tee Keat.

Unofficial: Soi Lek is new MCA No 2
8.35pm: Vote count for deputy president post is over. Soi Lek, who was seen thanking his supporters, is said to have emerged as winner for the No 2 post with a small majority. His supporters are cheering and celebrating his victory outside the counting hall.
